A mini-tribute to an artist I have admired since my art history days.
One of the things I as hoping for this year was to meet Robert while in my upcoming artist residency at the DIA:BEACON. In the early 50's Robert became good friends with composer John Cage, one of my hero's and life long partner of Merce Cunningham, with whom I will be working with. Robert worked side by side with Cage and Cunningham on many set designs for different dance pieces, including the one pictured above entitled "Minutiae, Facsimile" originally choreographed in 1954, but this photo was taken in 1976.
He lived an extraordinary life. So long Robert, it would have been great to have met you, but I'm sure our performance will be in dedication of your work.
